The “Elegance of Books Lingers, Hearts Find Resonance” book crossing activity was jointly held by the School of Foreign Languages’ Youth Volunteer Association and Financial Port Community from April 16 to 23. During April 16 to 17, an offline service station operated outside the main auditorium of Wuhan Institute of Technology’s Liufang Campus, attracting substantial turnout. Attendees included students carrying cherished editions of Pride and Prejudice containing their adolescent marginalia, as well as those donating knowledge-rich textbooks while expressing that “keeping knowledge in flow constitutes the finest homage to youth”.

A total of over 20 books were gathered by the end of the initiative. These books, donated to Financial Port Community permanently or for set durations, have begun their distinctive “crossing journey”, poised to welcome new readers.

Volunteers carrying the crossing books entered the Financial Port Community on the afternoon of April 24, representing the Youth Volunteer Association and the “Language Companions” Volunteer Service Team. They transformed into “book custodians” within the community activity space, where they systematically categorized, assigned inventory numbers, and placed the books on shelves. A tour of the community service center, led by staff, was also arranged for the volunteers during an activity break.

Upon finishing the organizational work, Ms. Liu Dan, the faculty advisor of the School’s Youth League Committee, and the head of Financial Port Community participated in a “charity tea talk”. The discussion, centered around the book crossing program, focused on strategies for strengthening future university-community partnership.

This book crossing activity successfully facilitated both the sharing and reuse of literary resources while creating a communicative bridge between participants, actualizing the ideal of “forming friendships around books”. Moving forward, the School of Foreign Languages plans to sustain this collaboration with Financial Port Community, continuing to host such programs to ensure “hearts find resonance” and “the elegance of books lingers”, ultimately contributing to a scholarly, cohesive culture that benefits both the campus and the community.
