The School of Foreign Languages has nearly two decades of history in graduate education, evolving from jointly cultivating postgraduate students in higher education programs to independently offering a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) degree and a first-tier discipline master’s program in Foreign Language and Literature. Currently, the first-tier discipline master’s program in Foreign Language and Literature primarily offers three specializations: English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, and Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The MTI degree program focuses on cultivating master’s students in English-Chinese bidirectional translation, with concentrations in science and technology, business, and culture.

The School currently has 35 master’s supervisors. Among them are experts serving on the Chinese Ministry of Education’s Audit Assessment and Qualification Assessment committees for undergraduate teaching, one expert recognized by Hubei Province for outstanding contributions (middle-aged and young experts), four selected for Hubei Province’s New Century 121 High-Level Talent Project, one outstanding young social science scholar of Hubei Province, one provincial-level key young faculty member, one distinguished talent of the university, and six university-level renowned teachers.

In recent years, representative achievements in the School’s postgraduate cultivation include:

Receiving the Grand Prize in the 2021 Wuhan Institute of Technology Graduate Teaching Achievement Award and the Third Prize in the 9th Hubei Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award.

A team led by professors Peng Shiyu, Chen Mingfang, Deng Juntao, and Wang Guifen was recognized as a Hubei Provincial Graduate Education Curriculum Ideology and Politics Teaching Master Team. Their co-developed course, “Translation Criticism and Appreciation: Ten Lectures on Master Chinese Translators,” was approved as a provincial-level graduate education curriculum ideology and politics demonstration course.

The course “Comparison of English and Chinese Languages” was approved for the National Online Demonstration Course Development Project for MTI students.

Postgraduate students have won over 40 awards in high-level provincial/ministerial disciplinary competitions.

Provided high-quality language services for dozens of major events, including the Military World Games, the Asian Games, the Wuhan Open Tennis Tournament, International Jewelry and Gem Exhibitions, and the Canton Fair.

Translated over 5 million Chinese characters/English words of scientific and technical project documentation for enterprises such as Sinopec and PetroChina operating in Hubei.

The initial employment rate for postgraduates has consistently exceeded 96% annually, with the number of graduates pursuing doctoral studies or further education abroad increasing year by year.
